Balancing Fertilizer Use And Profit In Asia’s Irrigated Rice Systems
About 90% of Asia’s population, particularly the most impoverished, depend on rice as a source of their calories. The production of sufficient rice in Asia at an affordable price for the poor relies on the effective use of fertilizers, especially in the irrigated lowlands that produce 75% of Asia’s rice. >more

NEW – Revised edition of successful publication Rice: A Practical Guide to Nutrient Management now available for sale and download
The first edition of Rice: A Practical Guide to Nutrient Management published in 2002 quickly became the standard reference for printed materials on Site-Specific Nutrient Management (SSNM) in rice. The revised edition of the practical guide is consistent with newer information provided in the SSNM web site and local training materials. >more
NEW - Increasing Productivity of Intensive Rice Systems through Site-Specific Nutrient Management
This book summarizes seven years of research to develop a new concept for Site-Specific Nutrient Management (SSNM) in irrigated rice systems and the tools needed for applying it in farmers’ fields. As part of IRRI’s Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (IRRC), this work has evolved into one of the largest and most important agronomic research projects in the world. More than 100 researchers and support staff in six countries collaborate in this unprecedented network of strategic on-farm and on-station research, representing disciplines such as soil science, agronomy, soil microbiology, pest management, and socioeconomics. >more

Fertilizer Chooser Software
Fertilizer Chooser is the final step in preparing a fertilizer program. Fertilizer Chooser assumes that a fertilizer recommendation for balanced plant nutrition is available and helps the user to translate a nutrient recommendation into the correct amounts of different fertilizers needed to make up the right amount of nutrients >more
Leaf Color Chart for Effective Nitrogen Management in Rice
Leaf color charts (LCC) offer substantial opportunities for farmers to estimate plant nitrogen (N) demand in real time for efficient fertilizer use and high rice yields. A new, standardized LCC for rice was developed based on the actual colors of rice leaves in Asia >more
